As COVID-19 continue to ravage the world, one of the modalities in prevention of its spread is the encouragement of the populace to wear face mask especially in public places. However, there are conditions in which wearing of face mask may not be adviced and one of them is during exercise.
WHO advised that people should not wear masks when exercising as masks may reduce the ability to breathe comfortably.
It furthermore explained that sweating (which is a common occurrence during exercise) can make the mask become wet more quickly which makes it difficult to breathe and can promote the growth of microorganisms.
The important preventive measure during exercise is to maintain physical distance of at least one meter from others.
